Looking Back on Ottawa Trucker Convoy

I give my thoughts on my initial reaction to the Ottowa Trucker Convoy. I still believe that the socialist’s have failed to see this movement as a way to branch our ideas out to a new audience. It was truly a way to spread class consciousness to the right, and learn about a commonly shunned group of people from the socialist movement.

The Emergency Powers Act being invoked over predicted discontent over mandates is terrifying for all protest movements regardless of content. This is because Liberal Democracy views all movements of the people as the same, not by ideological stances. A protest is a protest that challenges the government and this must be stopped. What is done in Canada will be done to all movements, especially because they lack the wide array of protected freedoms Americans have.

While the majority of these participants are workers, from both America and Canada, forming there own police, and are voicing discontent with the long standing economic ills of inflation, unemployment, high gas prices, high grocery bills, and high rent, this is far from a socialist uprising. In fact it is an uprising from the right. This is not to say this is fascism. Calling the truckers fascists is insane and so far from the truth. The reason I say the “right” is because they see the problems of society being resolved with limited government, and a free market economy. The real question here is how can the socialist left, Communist Party USA and Communist Party of Canada, guide the truckers and workers in general to coming to the conclusion there anger over vaccines is really caused by anger over the economic woes? I sincerely think that the anger of being mandated to get a vaccine or lose there job would not exist if jobs, food and housing were constitutionally guaranteed and gas nationalized as these are underlying conditions for vaccine resentment.

The Communist left must show solidarity with these truckers, not necessarily on there vaccine stances but on there economic stances. It is our duty as communists to educate the people and stand with them regardless of what they think about the vaccine. They are our brothers and sisters united in labor. We must be critical of there vaccine hesitancy and gently encourage it as it is truly safe and effective, however, because of the economic concerns they voice we must absolutely stand with them. The Communists are too embroiled in the social, and not the economic. This must change, for it is the economic that always influences the social.
